Caterpillars

I saw a couple of caterpillars while walking with the dogs the other day.  I'm not sure why I didn't stop and take photos.

One was a pale green and looked much like a snow pea pod wriggling along the road, while the other was one of those fuzzy orange and black caterpillars, looked much like a tiger tail squirming along.

Trying to think what time of year you usually see caterpillars ... I want to say spring, so that they then go into the cocoons and metamorph into butterflies later in the summer, but I'm guessing that they over-winter and come out as butterflies in the spring ... or does it depend on the species and the location?

  1. I think I see more of them crossing the roads in the fall. The big furry black and orange ones.

  2. And that time when you were driving Maxx and myself up into the hills so we could visit with Buddy's ashes had been scattered, I saw the caterpillars that time ... my excuse for the other years and years is that I was in the back seat ;)

  3. I've never had any trouble seeing them from the back seat... but then again I pay attention to what's happening in the road.

  4. You have better eyesight than me, too. How many times have I said you've tried to point out something too close to the car, as my eyes aren't "fast" enough ... and how about my lack of night vision!
